When: Sunday, November 6 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Where: Asheville Yoga Center Cost and signup: $40, you can sign up at Asheville Yoga Center's website (click here), or at the studio Level: All levels, with at least three months of yoga experience. Who: While this workshop is geared to those who have never done Ashtanga, it will also be helpful to those who have practiced Ashtanga some but would like to get a good review of the basics.
What: Curious about Ashtanga Yoga? Ashtanga is for people of all sizes, ages, and levels of yoga experience. It provides a balanced and thorough physical practice, and through the breathing and focus elements, it concretely leads over time toward inner peace. It is worth doing at least once! Please join me as I introduce (or re-introduce) you to the fabulous and ancient mind/body practice of Ashtanga Yoga First Series, as founded by Pattabhis Jois. We will go over the history of the practice, plus the importance of the breath, the muscular locks, and gaze of the eyes. We will review the Sun Salutations in detail, and do some work on some major foundational poses of the practice. We will also have time to play with various challenging techniques, like how to work on getting into Lotus, for example. The last third of the workshop will be an actual Ashtanga yoga practice, with some of the harder poses left out, so it becomes an abbreviated series, based on the work done previously. After this workshop, you will know what an Ashtanga class is like, and you will feel much more comfortable going. Pre-requisites: An open mind, a body that wants to try new things, and a curiousity about this magical lineage. If you can make it, it will be a joy to see you!
